Environment
✿ When touring the kindergarten, you should feel comfortable. The environment should be adequate in terms of size compared to the kindergarten's capacity. Pay particular attention to: the suitability of the building and garden for children - sufficient sunlight and lighting, railings at appropriate heights, a quiet location with plenty of greenery, a minimum of cars and a garden with suitable play elements, cleanliness - this is essential because it affects the health and safety of children, safety - furniture without sharp corners, well-secured entrance doors, windows and drawers equipped with child safety locks, glass surfaces with safety foils, adaptation of the environment to children - children's toilets, cots, easily accessible sinks and hygiene supplies, cleaning products out of reach of children, and the imagination of the environment - it should be creative, inspiring and provide teachers and children with the maximum range of options for fulfilling the goals of the educational program. Follow safety and other regulations and rules that should be publicly available, evacuation and fire regulations, fire extinguishers and smoke and fire detectors, marking of escape routes and exits, proper marking of service life on the fire extinguishing equipment label, etc.
Kindergarten staff
✿ It is advisable to plan a tour of the kindergarten for the morning or early afternoon hours. This is usually the time when kindergartens have guided activities that fulfill the goals defined by the educational program of the kindergarten. This way you can see the teachers and children at work. Watch how the teachers work with the children and the children's interpersonal communication and don't be afraid to ask the directors anything that comes to mind regarding the teachers' work. This experience is irreplaceable and will make your decision much easier.
Kindergarten evaluation
✿ How long has the nursery been in operation? How many children do they have and what are their ages? Does it meet all legal criteria? Does the nursery have liability insurance?
Children's program
✿ What is the daily schedule of the kindergarten? Are there activities for children (e.g. salt cave, hobbies, painting, ceramics, music clubs, sports and physical activities, etc.)? In what groups do the children work? To what extent does the kindergarten "educate" the children? How does the kindergarten inform you about the children's daily/weekly program? Pay attention to whether the children are just playing or whether their activities are balanced in terms of spontaneous games and guided activities. Ask about the goal of the given week and have the forms and methods of work with the children explained and the outputs of the children's work shown. Ask about the time allocations for guided activities.
Kindergarten founder and kindergarten staff
✿ Who is the founder of the kindergarten? Who is the executive or the manager of the founder? What education do the head and other employees of the kindergarten have? What experience do the kindergarten staff have in working with children? How long have the kindergarten staff worked in the kindergarten? What external collaborators does the kindergarten work closely with (speech therapist, pediatrician, child psychologist, Children's Mensa of the Czech Republic, Talent Center, Sports Clubs and Instructors Association, etc.)?
Children's diet and drinking regimen
✿ How is the children's daily drinking regime ensured? Is the food imported to the kindergarten or does the kindergarten cook it itself? Who is the food supplier? Is the food supplier accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports? What is the quality of the food (BIO)?
History of the kindergarten
✿ When and with what goal was the kindergarten founded? What projects and successes has it had? What does the kindergarten plan to change and improve in the future?
Communication with parents
✿ How does the kindergarten communicate with parents? How can the kindergarten meet your needs? How can you inform yourself about what is happening in the kindergarten (for example, the child's website with essential information, photos from activities, the child's portfolio)? Does the kindergarten create regular assessments of children? Does the kindergarten apply and comply with GDPR rules?
Prices and payment terms
✿ What is included in the price and what is paid separately? How is the tuition paid? To what extent does the kindergarten reimburse absences? Is it possible to make up for absences? In general, the simpler the price list, the more trustworthy the kindergarten. One price for everything (valid for at least 1 school year) is usually a guarantee of a quality choice.
✿ What can the kindergarten offer me "extra"? Can the kindergarten provide transportation for children, evening, night or weekend care? Are there special courses and clubs in the kindergarten for the development of children in those areas that they really like and/or are talented in?
